Apple's Latest Flagship Hits Record Low Pricing: Is Now the Right Moment to Upgrade?

Following the September 10 launch event, the iPhone 17 Pro has been completely removed from Apple's official online store and will not return, yet over forty authorized retailers in Beijing are bucking the trend with aggressive discount promotions.

While official online pricing previously sat higher, the current offline price for the standard 256GB model, when combined with national subsidies, drops to a record low of 5,499 yuan. According to an industry report from September 11, a journalist posing as a consumer contacted multiple Apple stores in Beijing and learned that offline discounts across the iPhone 17 lineup are ranging between 500 and 800 yuan.

At the Apple flagship store in Beijing's China Central Place shopping mall, staff revealed that the iPhone 17e, after applying the national subsidy, is now priced at 4,799 yuan—a full 500 yuan cheaper than the official website's 5,299 yuan tag. Meanwhile, a store in Beijing's Haidian district confirmed that the iPhone 17, originally listed at 6,799 yuan, now enjoys a 500 yuan price cut, bringing it down to 6,299 yuan.

Since the iPhone 17 Pro series vanished from the official online store, only two physical locations across all of Beijing still carry the device. The same Haidian district store staff indicated that the iPhone 17 Pro 256GB version, retailing at 8,999 yuan, has been subject to an 800 yuan discount since the early hours of September 9, resulting in a final price of 8,199 yuan.

Multiple Apple store representatives have advised that for customers seeking the best value on iPhone 17 products, the JD.com Apple self-operated flagship store is the recommended destination. Checking the JD.com platform, the iPhone 17 256GB model is listed at 5,469 yuan—a 500 yuan reduction from its previous 5,999 yuan price and a substantial 1,330 yuan saving compared to Apple's official website pricing.

When questioned about the reasons behind these iPhone 17 discounts, store staff declined to provide a direct response. They did, however, issue a reminder that authorized platforms such as JD.com do not currently sell the power adapter, which remains exclusively available through Apple's official channels.

The iPhone 17 series stands as one of Apple's best-selling lineups. Market research firm Counterpoint Research's latest global handset sales tracking report reveals that the iPhone 17 series achieved wholesale revenue exceeding $170 billion in its first year on the market, setting a new record for debut-year revenue across all iPhone generations and marking an 11% increase compared to the iPhone 16 series during the same period last year.

The excitement surrounding the new launch has also spilled over into the second-hand market. Platform data as of 8:00 AM on September 10 shows that searches for the iPhone 17 series surged by 470% following the launch event, with transaction volumes jumping 280% month-over-month. The standard iPhone 17 model saw its trading volume explode by over 700%.

On the trade-in front, the new release has sparked a surge in old-device recycling. The same platform witnessed a 311% month-over-month increase in valuation requests for Apple phones following the launch, with iPhone 17 series valuations growing more than fivefold.

So, will you take the plunge? Are you tempted by the latest design, or would you rather snap up a more budget-friendly previous generation? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
