Trump's Generous $5000 Stimulus Proposal Falls Flat Among GOP Lawmakers

US President Donald Trump has put forward a plan to distribute $5000 checks to every American adult citizen if the Republican Party secures a decisive victory in the November midterm elections. However, the proposal has generated little enthusiasm among Republican lawmakers in Congress who hold the power over federal spending.

Senior members from both the Senate and the House have shown a tepid response to the initiative. According to Trump's estimates, the program would carry a total price tag exceeding $1 trillion, coming at a time when inflation and the national debt are pressing concerns for voters and financial market participants alike.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune declined on Thursday to confirm whether the Republican-controlled Senate would approve the plan. When pressed during an interview, he responded, "Well, that's a good question," adding, "We'll deal with it when we get there."

House Republicans' chief tax writer, Jason Smith, voiced support for the concept in principle but warned that passing such legislation would prove challenging given the party's focus on fiscal deficits. "The proposal is workable," he stated, though he cautioned that "the bill will not pass easily."
