Lenovo Group (0966.HK) and IDC co-hosted the Lenovo ZhiHui Salon in Beijing, unveiling the industry's first "AI Host" whitepaper. As the premier authoritative guide to systematically establishing the category definition, technical standards, and value system for AI Hosts, this whitepaper marks the formal emergence of a new species in edge computing designed for the L3 autonomous intelligent agent era. It sets the stage for the computing industry to advance toward a new hybrid AI paradigm based on "device-edge-cloud" synergy.
The whitepaper defines the AI Host as an edge device purpose-built for intelligent agents, capable of running L3 and above autonomous execution agents while supporting continuous, unattended operation of complex, long-duration tasks. It integrates local inference, task execution, and data storage into a unified edge AI hub that works in concert with both terminals and cloud infrastructures.
Abulikemu, Vice President of Lenovo Group and Executive Chairman of its China Technology Committee, emphasized that the creation of the AI Host is fundamentally about returning computing power and data sovereignty to the hands of users. Wang Jiping, Vice President of IDC China, highlighted that the AI Host delivers a dedicated environment with 7×24 hour stable operation, localized data control, and predictable costs, effectively addressing enterprise AI implementation challenges related to cost, security, and user experience.
From a financial perspective, the total cost of ownership (TCO) model presented in the whitepaper indicates that scenarios consuming 600 million tokens per month can achieve break-even in about 10 months, while those using more than 1.8 billion tokens can do so in just eight months. The higher the usage intensity, the greater the long-term savings, with a potential five-year TCO reduction of up to 67%.
Looking ahead, the whitepaper projects 2026 as the inaugural year for the AI Host category, with estimated shipments of around 400,000 units and a market size of roughly 5 billion yuan. Accelerated growth is expected between 2029 and 2030, culminating in annual shipments of approximately 7 million units and a market valuation of about 77 billion yuan by 2030.
As the pioneer of the AI Host category, Lenovo is currently the only company in China to offer both consumer and commercial product lines across a full spectrum of solutions. Its portfolio spans entry-level lightweight models priced under 5,000 yuan to enterprise flagship and cluster configurations exceeding 40,000 yuan.
