With the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday approaching, family trips are emerging as a key travel scenario, fueling an early uptick in the children's sports and outdoor gear segment.

Demand for kids' sporting equipment that balances professional quality with strong value for money is climbing, offering a fresh lens through which to gauge the holiday consumption market.

The scale of the children's sports and outdoor consumer base continues to expand steadily, with quality and affordability emerging as the top priorities.

According to the 2026 Outdoor Sports Footwear and Apparel Consumption Trends Report from Digital 100, the number of outdoor sports participants in China has surpassed 400 million, with 74% of users incorporating outdoor gear into daily commuting attire. In 2025, the combined sports and outdoor consumption market reached 1.82 trillion yuan, marking a 15.2% year-on-year increase, while the outdoor sports footwear and apparel segment alone exceeded the 100 billion yuan threshold.

Data from iiMedia Research's 2026 China Sports and Outdoor Market Consumption Trends Report indicates that consumers prioritize convenience (54.5%) and comfort (52.4%) when selecting outdoor equipment, with personal interests and hobbies (48.6%) serving as the primary motivation for participating in outdoor activities.

The holiday travel boom provides solid momentum for the children's athletic consumption segment. GZL's 2026 Mid-Autumn and National Day Domestic Travel Trends Report projects that families with children and working professionals will form the core demographic for domestic travel during the festive period.

Summer travel momentum among families remains strong, with Tongcheng Travel data showing that family travel accounted for approximately 38% of summer 2026 civil aviation passengers. Bookings for "textbook-inspired travel" products surged over 60% year-on-year. Ctrip's 2026 Summer Travel Insights reveal that spending per family traveler reached 1.8 times that of non-family travelers.

Ministry of Culture and Tourism statistics show that domestic travel reached 3.463 billion trips in the first half of 2026, up 5.4% year-on-year. As travel spending heats up, value for money has become a crucial consideration for consumers.

To cater to holiday travel consumption, Vipshop launched its "Vipshop Sports Festival" on September 15, leveraging brand discounts to meet consumer demand for premium quality at competitive prices.

Around the family travel scene, a pair of FILA cheetah-themed outdoor sports shoes for older children is priced at 309 yuan, offering lightweight comfort ideal for family outings. A Skechers anti-scuff, toe-protected sports shoe for older boys is available at 134 yuan, suited for everyday outdoor activities.

Notably, on the launch day, select best-selling items could be combined with government consumption vouchers, allowing an additional 15% discount on top of promotional prices.

Industry observers note that children's sports consumption is shifting from a focus on novelty to a greater emphasis on functional performance and value alignment. Zhuang Shuai, a retail e-commerce expert and founder of Bailian Consulting, said that sports and outdoor consumption is evolving toward higher quality and greater cost-effectiveness, with leading brands gaining traction through their R&D strength and brand influence. Under the prevailing trend of seeking value, discount channels are expected to see faster growth.

Industry experts hold an optimistic outlook for the growth potential of children's sports and outdoor gear. Analysts at iiMedia Research believe that the spread of light outdoor concepts and expanding family travel scenarios are driving innovation in functional fabrics and scenario-based equipment, with products iterating toward lightweight, comfortable, and high-performance designs.

The iiMedia Research report projects that China's sports footwear and apparel market will grow from 598.6 billion yuan in 2025 to 896.3 billion yuan by 2030.

Experts anticipate that children's sports and outdoor equipment, propelled by family travel, is set to experience a surge in growth.
