Seasonal Skincare Demand Surges, Premium Repair Products Hit Peak Shopping Period

As September arrives with cooler temperatures and lower humidity, skin begins showing seasonal stress signals. Dryness, redness, and compromised skin barriers have become frequent keywords in social media skincare discussions, driving a noticeable climb in searches and conversations around "seasonal skincare routines." For consumers, the autumn-winter transition has cemented itself as a recurring checkpoint for upgrading their skincare regimens.

According to the "2025 China Skin Health White Paper" released this year by the Chinese Skin Health Research Center, by the end of 2025, 36.1% of the population self-reported having sensitive skin, translating to an estimated scale exceeding 200 million people. Consumer skincare needs are shifting progressively along a spectrum—from basic hydration to brightening and oil control, then anti-aging and renewal, and finally to barrier repair—with repair and moisturizing demands being amplified even further during seasonal transitions.

International premium skincare brands like Estée Lauder have become key focal points in this trend. According to Estée Lauder, the brand will launch its "Super Brand Day" on Vipshop (NYSE: VIPS) on September 10, aligned with its annual member appreciation event. Popular bestsellers will emphasize value-for-money themes in the promotion: the Advanced Night Repair Eye Cream offers a buy-15ml-get-15ml deal, and the Advanced Night Repair Serum provides 95ml for the price of 50ml. Additionally, on launch day, select bestsellers can be stacked with government consumption vouchers, applying an extra 15% discount on the already reduced promotional price.

In fact, high-value premium beauty bestsellers are emerging as a powerful engine driving rapid growth in the cosmetics industry. National Bureau of Statistics data shows that from January to July 2026, China's cosmetics retail sales reached RMB 272.3 billion, up 6.3% year-over-year. More noteworthy are the structural shifts: a review of financial reports from multiple international beauty groups reveals that since the second half of 2025, China's premium beauty segment has achieved near-double-digit growth, once again becoming a global growth driver for these conglomerates.

The recovery of high-end brands has been particularly pronounced in cost-effective offerings. Previously, Estée Lauder and Vipshop established an official partnership with the brand's flagship store joining Vipshop's platform. This joint promotional campaign also signals the importance international premium brands place on flash-sale channels, as they increasingly normalize limited-time deals on best-selling products. According to industry experts, autumn and winter typically represent the peak consumption season for beauty and skincare products. Looking at this year's market, international brands, competitive pricing, and bestselling items are key drivers of cosmetics market growth. As major beauty labels actively embrace younger demographics who value both cost-effectiveness and quality lifestyles, this approach may further propel sustained growth in skincare consumption.
