JPMorgan Chase Chief Executive Jamie Dimon is slated to hold talks with UK Chancellor John Healey on Wednesday, according to an individual familiar with the matter. This comes as the British government weighs the possibility of imposing a windfall tax on bank profits in its forthcoming budget announcement.
Earlier reports indicated that Dimon had an introductory call with Healey last month, during which the pair addressed tax policies. Under Prime Minister Andy Burnham's administration, the UK government has not ruled out raising taxes on banks in the budget scheduled for release on October 28.
Major UK banks have posted robust profits over recent quarters, fueling calls to introduce a windfall tax on the sector, echoing measures adopted by other European nations.
In his first major address since taking office this week, Healey underscored economic growth and fiscal discipline as central policy priorities. However, rising inflation expectations and uncertainty surrounding government spending plans have driven UK borrowing costs sharply higher in recent weeks, intensifying market speculation about potential tax increases.
