As New National Standards Loom, a Small City in Anhui Lights Up the Global Stage with Its Hundred-Billion-Dollar Solar Industry

Deep in Anhui province, the city of Chuzhou is making bold strides toward its ambition of becoming the "global solar capital." The city has already attracted 10 of the world's top 20 photovoltaic companies, and now hosts 157 advanced solar and energy storage firms, culminating in a substantial hundred-billion-yuan industrial chain. This is a remarkable evolution from exporting raw quartz sand to manufacturing state-of-the-art solar cells, showcasing a fundamental transformation powered by industrial aggregation.

At the heart of this momentum is Anhui Xuhe New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., where a team led by 90-year-old academician You Wei has achieved a market-leading photoelectric conversion efficiency of 27.1% for N-type TOPCon solar cells. The path of this young company toward the sun is a blend of leveraging local resource advantages, pushing technological frontiers, and most notably, staying sharply attuned to policy signals.

With the national mandatory energy efficiency standards for the photovoltaic sector set to take effect this coming January, the industry faces a new regulatory framework. These standards classify energy consumption and efficiency metrics for related products. "We are fully prepared to meet the challenges of the new national standards," stated Qin Zhen, R&D Center Director at Xuhe Technology. He noted that stricter regulations will eliminate high-energy-consuming and low-efficiency capacities, ultimately fostering a more competitive and healthier industrial ecosystem.

For Chuzhou, achieving its "world-class" goal hinges on balancing rapid growth with energy efficiency. The new standards represent both a test and an opportunity to strengthen the resilience of its industrial chain.
