Recently, in Dadi 8th Village, Sangyuan Town, Wuqiao County, vast stretches of corn fields present a lush, verdant scene. Li Gang, a local grower, walked through the field ridges with agricultural technicians from the town, bending down to inspect crop growth and monitor soil moisture levels.

"This is the critical stage for corn grain filling and weight gain. Whether the kernels are plump depends entirely on how well we manage the fields during this period. With the town's technicians regularly visiting the fields, they clearly explain when to apply top dressing and how to prevent and control diseases and pests. This gives us great peace of mind in our farming," Li Gang said with a smile.

Currently, the alternating high temperatures and rainfall present significant challenges for field management. Sangyuan Town has formulated a special plan focusing on "flood and drought prevention, pest and disease control, nutrient supplementation to prevent premature aging, and quality and yield improvement," implementing a mechanism where cadres supervise villages and technicians oversee fields, with clear responsibilities distributed across all areas.

"The grain-filling period is crucial for determining corn yield, and different field conditions require varying management focuses. We organize agricultural technicians to go to the front lines and, based on field growth conditions, guide growers in scientifically applying grain-filling fertilizer and foliar sprays to supplement crop nutrients, prevent premature aging due to nutrient deficiency, and support full grain filling," explained Yu Ping, a second-level chief staff member of Sangyuan Town. "We continue to intensify field inspections and monitoring, closely tracking the occurrence trends of corn rust, ear rot, corn borer, and other pests and diseases, and promptly issue early warning alerts. Through multiple channels, we promote green control technologies, guide growers in scientific and safe pesticide application, and advance unified pest prevention and control."

Thanks to fine-tuned management, the town's 25,000 acres of corn currently show balanced growth and thriving conditions. Yu Ping stated that they will closely monitor weather changes and the growth rhythm of the autumn crops, regularly conduct inspections and technical guidance, and thoroughly manage every stage of autumn crop production to ensure the grains are fully harvested.
