THE ASK: A contemporary San Francisco home built for art collectors located in the South Park neighborhood is asking $11.5 million.

THE SELLERS: Richard Niles, 75, and his wife, Lenore Pereira, 77. Both are retired; Niles was a software engineer and Pereira was a molecular biologist. Niles said the couple are planning to downsize in the Bay Area.

The couple have an extensive art collection made up exclusively of works by female artists, including Tracey Emin and Louise Bourgeois. Around 2005, they bought a roughly 2,400-square-foot empty lot in South Park for $1.4 million. On it, they spent around four years building a home more suitable for their collection with an industrial aesthetic. They declined to disclose the cost of construction.

THE SPECS: The three-level home's unusual facade has made it a landmark in the popular mobile game Pokémon Go, Niles said. The front and back walls on the top two floors are made of floor-to-ceiling glass.

The three-bedroom, 5,400-square-foot home also has a commercial space on the ground floor, which was designed to be a gallery. The pair have rented out the gallery in the past and currently use it as a photography studio for Pereira.

THE MARKET: The home was listed in 2022 for $12 million, according to Zillow. The price dropped to $7.995 million before the home was taken off the market in August 2023.

Niles said he and Pereira were testing the market and feel now is a better time to sell. The listing agents are Stacey Caen and Joseph Lucier of Sotheby's International Realty.

Earlier this year, The Wall Street Journal reported that San Francisco's real-estate market is being fueled by a wave of AI wealth. In August, a Bay Area home in the Hillsborough neighborhood sold to a buyer in the AI industry for $70 million.
