CenterPoint Energy's (CNP) near-term catalysts are concentrated in H2 and beyond, including a smart meter filing in Q4 and a potential large load customer in Indiana, RBC Capital Markets said in a note Tuesday.

The investment firm said the company has meaningfully de-risked its Texas regulatory construct through a series of legislative improvements.

RBC said consensus estimates are already at the high end of CenterPoint Energy's earnings per share compound annual growth rate guidance of 7% to 9% through 2030.

Analysts said they prefer stocks with more generation leverage, visible capital upside, and compelling valuations.

RBC Capital Markets initiated coverage on the stock with a sector perform rating and a $40 price target.
