Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TPE:2330) Co-COO Y.J. Mii said the chipmaker is taking a cautious approach to using AI, comparing the technology to a "three-year-old Superman" that lacks judgment, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday.

Mii was cited in the report as saying that TSMC is particularly careful about using AI with sensitive research and development data due to risks of leaks or data loss. He cited recent incidents involving AI models infiltrating external organizations as a concern, according to the report.

Mii also said AI currently has limited usefulness in developing next-generation semiconductor technologies. TSMC is developing its A14 and A10 process nodes, but Mii said equipment constraints remain beyond what AI can address, the report said.
